When I grew up, they used to tell me about the Battle of Britain, RAF, Winston Churchill, all that stuff. Now, we all know that Britain stood alone and without any allies; and that always meant a lot to me and everybody that I grew up With.

They say that you’re planning to put me down
All I would like you to do
Is tell me that it isn’t true[/vc_message][/vc_column][/vc_row]
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_color=”mulled_wine” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-quote-left”]There is a house down in New Orleans
They call the rising sun
And it’s been the ruin of many poor girl

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_color=”mulled_wine” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-quote-left”]Ain’t it just like the night to play tricks when you’re tryin’ to be so quiet?
We sit here stranded, though we’re all doin’ our best to deny it
And Louise holds a handful of rain, temptin’ you to defy it
Lights flicker from the opposite loft
In this room the heat pipes just cough
The country music station plays soft
But there’s nothing, really nothing to turn off[/vc_message][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Thin man lookin’ at his last meal
Hollow man lookin’ in a cottonfield

Saying, “This land is condemned
All the way from New Orleans
To (new) Jerusalem”
I traveled through East Texas
Where many martyrs fell
And I know no one can sing the blues
Like Blind Willie McTell[/vc_message][/vc_column][/vc_row]

I'm always amazed that the live versions released by Bob's people are so often surpassed by much better versions out there in the ether. This Blind Willie McTell also ranks right up there along with Visions and Dignity. Some day, maybe, he will enable a grand journey through the archives for a selection of these masterpieces.
