GREAT concert: Bob Dylan @ Palác kultury, Prague, Czech Republic – March 11, 1995

Bob Dylan Prague 11 March 1995

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_color=”mulled_wine” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-quote-left”]Dylan opens the year with one of the most remarkable performances of the “Never Ending tour,” despite still visible suffering the after effects of the bug (at several points he sits on the drum rise, scrunched up in some discomfort)… the shock of the evening is not in his song selection.. but the fact that he performs almost the entire show without a guitar.. harmonica in hand, making strange shadow-boxing movements, cupping the harmonica to his mouth on nearly every song, blowing his sweetest harp breaks in years.

November 19: Bob Dylan singing a beautiful “Restless Farewell” in Los Angeles 1995

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_color=”mulled_wine” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-quote-left”]Oh all the money that in my whole life I did spend
Be it mine right or wrongfully
I let it slip gladly past the hands of my friends
To tie up the time most forcefully[/vc_message][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_color=”mulled_wine” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-quote-left”]Dylan is part of an all-star cast who have convened at the Shrine to celebrate Frank Sinatra’s eightieth birthday. While cameras roll and Sinatra is seated in A 18, DyIan unveils a remarkable version of” Restless Farewell,” all five verses sung with a nervy precision, accompanied by his usual musical misfits and a string quartet. The whole thing is actually rather moving, as is Sinatra’s seemingly genuine enthusiasm for the performance, which is subsequently broadcast on cable TV.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_color=”mulled_wine” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-quote-left”]There’s a certain part of you that becomes addicted to a live audience. I wouldn’t keep
doing it if I was tired of it. I do about 125 shows a year. It may sound like a lot to people who don’t work that much, but it isn’t. BB King is working 350 nights a year.

Shelter From The Storm

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_color=”mulled_wine” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-quote-left”]’Twas in another lifetime, one of toil and blood
When blackness was a virtue the road was full of mud
I came in from the wilderness, a creature void of form
Come in, she said
I’ll give ya shelter from the storm[/vc_message][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_color=”mulled_wine” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-quote-left”]The performers who changed my life were individuals .. They didn’t conform to any sense of reality but their own. The last performer who stood up to be counted as an original is Bruce Springsteen, I think. Individuals move me, not mobs.

June 5: Van Morrison released “Days Like This” in 1995

“Days Like This” was a delight, Van´s best album in years. Perhaps reflecting his romantic hook-up with Irish beauty-queen Michelle Rocca (his companion walking the dogs in the cover photo). Van sounded happier here than he´d been for decade..
