PJ Harvey Sings Bob Dylan, Willie Dixon and The Rolling Stones – Happy 50th Birthday Polly Jean

Bob Dylan is a sacred name in our household.
-PJ Harvey

Lyrics-wise Dylan has been a clear influence. Harvey shares his creative wanderlust, changing from album to album, but she also eschews the autobiographical in favour of strange snap shots, real world events, tall tales, heartbreakers, love songs and more.

At the moment, I’m just on this whole exploration of Bob Dylan’s early Sixties albums. For some reason, I’ve been familiar with his more recent records, and I’ve not really gone in there and listened to what was going on then, and I’ve found that very inspiring. … . Now with Dylan, it’s made me think a lot about what is one actually saying in a song and trying to work on strengths through words and actually say something of relevance.
