  1. Thanks for the reminder of Joni’s birthday. I met Joni in Lansing Michigan about 2 years before she got famous. I was touring with the Belafonte singers in the early 1960s, had a night off and chanced to meet her through a friend. We traded songs and I remember her singing “Both Sides Now” from that night.. It was mesmerizing. Like Bobby did with “Blowin’ in the Wind” her lyrical style in “Both Sides Now” set a new standard for poignant yet purposeful writing. There was a chilly edge to the warmth of her singing that was also unique as were Bobby’s early “Woody” styled sing-spiel vocals. Here’s her singing “Both Sides Now” and happy Birthday Joni. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pbn6a0AFfnM. JRW
