20 Songs Released in 1978 You Must Hear

My rules:

  • Only one song per artist/group
  • The song must be released that specific year
  • Songs from live albums not allowed
  • Restricted to only 20 songs

A lot of wonderful music was released in 1978, here are my 20 chosen songs.

  • Señor (Tales of Yankee Power) – Bob Dylan

Released on his brilliant album “Street-Legal” in 1978.

    Señor, señor
Can you tell me where we’re headin’?
    Lincoln County Road or Armageddon?
Seems like I been down this way before
Is there any truth in that, señor?

And lets include a brilliant live version from London 1978:

Listen: The Rolling Stones @ Masonic Hall (Detroit, MI), July 6, 1978

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_color=”mulled_wine” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-quote-left”]This show, recorded during the ’78 tour, is a reminder of how it should be. The Stones’ strength is making a 4,000 seat theatre feel like a sweaty, smoky, beer-soaked juke joint, and they achieve it here. At times it’s loose and ugly, but that just makes it so much sweeter when they get it together. The more “modern” likes of “Miss You” and “Shattered” stand up against classic material such as “Tumbling Dice.” If Mick sounds a little out of breath, just picture him shimmying back and forth across a 100 foot stage and ask yourself if you could do the same and stay in key. This ain’t the opera – this is rock ‘n’ roll at its raw and bloody essence!

December 15: Classic concert, Bruce Springsteen at Winterland Ballroom SF in 1978

“Tonight you’re gonna hear the concert of your life”, the guy of KSAN states to his listeners at the beginning of this radio broadcast, and it is the truth!

Bruce Springsteen Winterland Ballroom

bruce winterland

Bruce’s Winterland-78 concert is by many fans & “concert tape collectors” regarded as one of his best shows ever… It is indeed a cornerstone in any collection of concert bootlegs (regardless of artist). Number 2 on my list (Egil) of the best Springsteen’s concerts I’ve heard. It is now selling as a “semi official” release at amazon.co.uk.
