October 25: Full concert audio – Bob Dylan in St. Paul 2001

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_color=”mulled_wine” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-quote-left”]Coming out of seeing a Bob show, it’s always too easy to say this was the
best ever. For me nothing could ever top 1995 Target Center, but tonight
had its amazing moments which showed a band right at the top of its game.
“Summer Days” into “Sugar Baby” into “Wicked Messenger” was as kick-ass
and profound a sequence of three songs as I could ever have imagined.

October 24: Bob Dylan – 10 great live versions of “One Too Many Mornings”

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_color=”mulled_wine” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-quote-left”]
The song ultimately benefited from two of the man’s best electric arrangements, on the highly charged 1966 and 1976 tours. On the latter tour it also acquired a brand-new coda that suggested faults on both sides: ‘You’ve no right to be here / And I’ve no right to stay / Until we’re both one too many mornings / And a thousand miles away.’ Its inclusion in the set, at a time when Dylan had reached much the same point in his relationship with wife Sara as he’d reached with Suze in October 1963, suggests its return to favour was no coincidence. Subsequent performances, which have tended to be (semi-)acoustic, suggest it is a song Dylan can plug his inspired self into at will, as anyone who caught performances at New York’s Beacon Theatre in October 1990, or at the second Supper Club show in 1993, can readily testify.

The Best Dylan Covers: Nina Simone – Ballad of Hollis Brown

Ballad of Hollis Brown is a song written by Bob Dylan, released in 1964 on his third album The Times They Are A-Changin’. The song tells the story of a South Dakota farmer, who overwhelmed by the desperation of poverty, kills his wife, children and then himself.

Lyrically, this song consists of 11 verses which bring the listener to a bleak and destitute South Dakota farm, where a poor farmer (Hollis Brown), his wife and five children, already living in abject poverty, are subjected to even more hardships. In despair, the man kills his wife and children and himself with a shotgun. A murder ballad if there ever was one, I would love to hear Nick Cave tackle this song.

Rollin’ high and mighty traps
Pounced with fire on flaming roads
Using ideas as my maps

Proud ’neath heated brow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now[/vc_message][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_color=”mulled_wine” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-quote-left”]The biggest surprise followed when Dylan pulled out Dwight Yoakam’s “The Heart that You Own.” Larry played pedal steel and Bob had some good vocals. The song was performed well and Bob seemed really into it. ..
