Rising from the New York punk movement of the 70’s, Patti Smith is an influential singer and musician known for combining spoken word poetry with primal garage rock. By 1976, she had released her debut Horses and the more raw-sounding Radio Ethiopia.
Her October 3rd, 1976 concert at The Konserthuset in Stockholm, Sweden was filmed and recorded for broadcast, documenting this early stage in her career. Prior to the internet, the audio portion had been circulated among fans with the bootleg title, ‘I Never Talked To Bob Dylan,’ a slight reference to the short interview that accompanied the performance.

Paul McCartney and Wings, ‘Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne, Australia’Recorded live on the 13th November, 1975, from the same tour that gave us, ‘Wings Over America’ (different leg). The material is mainly from the albums, ‘Band On The Run’ and ‘Venus And Mars’, but also giving us a little taste of what was to be released on ‘Wings At The Speed Of Sound’, the tour was also the first time they played Beatles tracks.

This is a great show from Kosei Nenkin Hall in Tokyo, Japan 1983! (september 1st, or maybe 2nd…)
From about 1983 until 1986, The Band consisted of original members Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel and Garth Hudson, along with the four members of Fayetteville Arkansas’s Cate Brothers Band, Earl and Ernie Cate, Ron Eoff, and Terry Cagle. Terry is Levon’s nephew and plays and sings a lot like his Uncle Levon. Earl and Ernie play keys and amazing guitar, respectively. Ernie is a soulful singer. Ron is an accomplished bassist, and his presence allowed Rick Danko to play some acoustic guitar and fiddle, just as having Terry Cagle on drums freed Levon to play mandolin some.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_color=”mulled_wine” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-quote-left”]A concert perhaps best known for the outstanding video footage available. “Growin’ Up” features the teenage werewolf story. “Backstreets” has some lines from “Pretty Flamingo” in the ‘Sad Eyes’ section. Tremendous versions of “Quarter To Three” (particularly the video) and “Prove It All Night” with the cab driver intro and an outstanding guitar solo. “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)” includes a snippet of “Macho Man” during the band introductions. The show features a particularly loose and active Bruce, maybe because the next day he was going home to New Jersey for the first time in a year. The MC that can be heard introducing Springsteen before “Summertime Blues” is the legendary Washington-area DJ Don “Cerphe” Colwell.

I don’t want to encourage the buying of unauthorized material, but if you already have all the official video items, you really got to have this. Performance like ‘Sandy’ and ‘Prove it all night’ as captured in this film make you understand how great he is, just in case there was any doubt left. All the show was great, but Sandy is above all… and this show was not better than all the other ’78 shows…. I’m just speaking of this because I just have this one…. This reminds me of an old phrase I saw written on some horrible shirt : “People can be divided in two halves; the ones who love him, and the ones who never saw him playing live…” Back here… the video is goin’ on…. I cannot write nothing on Growin’up and Backstreets. The ‘sad eyes-drive all night-pretty flamingo’ interlude in backstreets is simply one of the best things you may ever watch and listen to…. Also Because the Night is terrific…

Tom Petty talks about how he wrote his songs, and even writes one on the spot (kind of)! This is episode 1 in season 4 of this classic TV-series. It shows us what a wonderful storyteller Tom Petty was, through his songs and in between. He was one of the nicest guys around, and a very talented songwriter. This VH1 episode gives us Tom Petty at the height of his powers performing to an intimate audience and explaining with humour the inspiration for his songs.
