January 14: T Bone Burnett was born in 1948


Joseph Henry “T Bone” Burnett
(born January 14, 1948) is an American musician, songwriter, and soundtrack and record producer. He was a touring guitarist in Bob Dylan’s band on the Rolling Thunder Revue. After the tour ended, Burnett and two other members of the backing band formed The Alpha Band, followed by his first solo album in 1980.

January 9: Joan Baez was born in 1941 – here singing Bob Dylan songs

Joan Baez has recorded many Dylan songs. Her unique and beautiful voice carries some of them to different places. For many Dylan enthusiasts, Joan Baez’s interpretations are the only tolerable ones, besides Dylan’s own 🙂

Baez first met Dylan in 1961 at Gerde’s Folk City in New York City’s Greenwich Village.

December 29: The late great Rick Danko was born in 1942

I saw Ronnie Hawkins play near my hometown, Port Dover, Ontario, and I saw him play there on New Year’s Eve and the following spring I booked myself to be his opening act on maybe five shows, and he hired me after the first night.

The late great Pops Staples was born in 1914

Roebuck “Pops” Staples (December 28, 1914 – December 19, 2000) was an American gospel and R&B musician.

A pivotal figure in gospel in the 1960s and 70s, he was a tremendous songwriter, guitarist and singer. He was the patriarch and member of singing group The Staple Singers, which included his son Pervis and daughters Mavis, Yvonne, and Cleotha, later just Pops and his daughters.
